ARTIFACT: This is a World War II USS Cabrilla SS-288 launch badge in a variant cream color. Courtesy of www.hazegray.org: Cabrilla (SS-288) was launched 24 December 1942 by Portsmouth Navy Yard; sponsored by Mrs. L. B. Combs; commissioned 24 May 1943, Commander D. T. Hammond in command; and reported to the Pacific Fleet. Cabrilla received six battle stars for World War II service. Of her eight patrols, six were designated as "successful". She is credited with having sunk a total of 38,767 tons of shipping. I have seen this badge in two colors, showing what may be a very uniform fade of the blue color to a solid cream color: an interesting variation.

VINTAGE: Circa 1942.

SIZE: Approximately 1-1/2" in diameter.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Celluloid-wrapped tin.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical safety-style pin.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a United States Navy collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. 2@MEM04 LEJX7/11 S(1)VEJX10/21 1@MEX14 LEEX10/09/21

CONDITION: 7- (Very Fine-): The badge has some light wear and may be either a variant badge or has faded to a cream color from an original shade of aqua blue.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
