ARTIFACT: This is a rare and wonderful unit history of the United States Army Air Forces 487th Fighter Squadron, 352nd Fighter Group, 8th Air Force, aka "The Hun-ters". The book comes with an original period photograph of the squadron's original commanding officer, Major George E. Preddy. Preddy was killed in action on Christmas Day, 1944. Leafing through the pages, you notice that Preddy was a vital part of the squadron's lifeblood: in fact, you are hard-pressed to turn a page without seeing a mention or photo of him. Constituted in 1942, the 352nd amassed a great volume of decorations and produced a high percentage of aces. The group flew Thunderbolts and Mustangs on several missions, most notably a win against the Luftwaffe in Belgium on January 1, 1945, sadly only about a week after Preddy's death.

VINTAGE: Published circa World War II.

SIZE: 32 pages, approximately 8-1/2" in height and 11-1/4" in width: photograph is about 3-3/4" by 4-3/4".

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Cloth-bound cover, paper; photograph.

ATTACHMENT: Glued binding.

MARKINGS: MAJOR GEORGE E. PREDDY written on reverse of photo.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a United States Army Air Forces unit history collection that we will be listing more of over the next few months. VEJX06 LEDEX9/13 SEDEX10/13
