ARTIFACT: This is a World War II photo identification badge for a United Aircraft worker by Whitehead & Hoag. United started in 1929 as United Aircraft and Transport Corporation and abbreviated its name five years later after the air mail monopoly scandal. The corporation included a number companies such as Pratt & Whitney, Sikorsky and Chance-Vought, and its aim was to cater to both civilian and military aviation interests. The badge shows a photo of Worker 3070.

VINTAGE: Circa World War II.

SIZE: Approximately 2” in diameter.

CONSTRUCTION/MATERIALS: Painted metal, photograph, celluloid.

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal pin with drop-in locking swivel catch.

MARKINGS: 3070; WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO. NEWARK, N.J. PAT. APPL’D FOR on reverse.
