ARTIFACT: This is a World War II submarine launch tag for the USS Ronquil SS-396, launched January 27, 1944 at Portsmouth (NH) Naval Shipyard, along with the USS Redfish and the USS Razorback. The Ronquil earned six battle stars in five World War II war patrols. The Ronquil is the submarine shown in the famous 1968 Cold War John Sturges movie, Ice Station Zebra", starring Rock Hudson, Patrick McGoohan and Ernest Borgnine. The movie's fictional submarine was named the "Tigerfish".

VINTAGE: Circa 1944.

SIZE: About 1-3/4" in width by 2-1/8" in height.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Foiled card stock.

ATTACHMENT: Silk string.

MARKINGS: None.
