ARTIFACT: This is a World War II submarine launch tag for the USS Burrfish SS-312, which was launched from Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard on June 18, 1943. Burrfish's war operations extended from February 2, 1944 to May 13, 1945, during which period it completed six war patrols and sank a 5,894 ton Japanese tanker. The ship's operating area extended from the Western Caroline Islands to Formosa and the waters south of Japan. Burrfish also participated with Ronquil (SS-396) in the destruction of a 200-ton patrol vessel. During its third war patrol the ship completed several special missions, conducting reconnaissance of the beaches of Palau and Yap where landings were planned.

VINTAGE: Circa 1943.

SIZE: About 1-3/4" in width x 2-1/8" in height.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Foiled card stock.

ATTACHMENT: Silk string.
