ARTIFACT: This is a World War II launch tag for the launching of the USS Runner (SS-275) from the Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard on May 30, 1942. On May 27, 1943, Runner headed for northern Japanese waters and was never heard form again. Credited with sinking the vessel Seinan Maru two weeks later (according to Japanese records), Runner was eventually presumed lost and received one battle star for her World War II service.

VINTAGE: Circa 1942.

SIZE: Approximately 2-1/16 in height (excluding 3-5/8" of string) and 1-3/4" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Foiled card stock with silk string.

ATTACHMENT: Punched hole with string.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a United States Navy collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. LCEX7/11

CONDITION: 8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The tag has some light wear, and the tag you receive will either be this one or one in very similar condition.
