ARTIFACT: This is a souvenir ribbon for the launching of the USS L-8 from the Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard on April 23, 1917. The L-8 was the first submarine ever built at a navy yard, and the first to be launched from Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard. L-8 did not serve long enough to see World War II service. There is a typo on the ribbon: the launch date was the 23rd, not the 24th.

VINTAGE: Circa World War II.

SIZE: Approximately 5-1/8 in height and 2-3/16" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Printed white silk.

ATTACHMENT: N/A.

MARKINGS: N/A.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a United States Navy collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. LFJX3/11 SEJX05/20

CONDITION: 8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The ribbon has light creasing and fraying.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
