ARTIFACT:
This is a World War II era officer cap badge in bullion and enamel worn by Wally Johnson, a radio officer for the Grace Lines. Grace was originally begun by two Irish brothers as a shipping company in the nineteenth century and evolved into a luxury cruise line over time. Pictured above are Johnson and his ship, the USS President Garfield. The badge shows an enameled red and white flag wreathed in gold leaves.
VINTAGE:
Circa World War II.
SIZE:
Approximately 2-15/16" in height and 24-1/4" in length (total).
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Wool embroidered in bullion, plated brass with enamel, mesh backing, elasticized cotton band.
ATTACHMENT:
Elastic band with two reinforced button holes; single screw post with disc backing.
