ARTIFACT: This is a World War II distinctive insignia for the United States Army 240th Coast Artillery Harbor Defense (now 240th Regiment), under the Maine National Guard. The DI shows a phoenix, part of the crest of the city of Portland, Maine, and a portcullis. It reads SEMPER PRIMUS ET FIDELIS (always first and faithful).

VINTAGE: Circa World War II.

SIZE: Approximately 1" in height and 7/8" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Plated brass with enamel.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical pin with come-under locking swivel catch.

MARKINGS: N.S. MEYER NEW YORK, engraved shield mark.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a United States Army collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months VAL90 LABX12/11

CONDITION: 7 (Very Fine): The DI shows some light wear and minor crazing to the enamel.
