ARTIFACT: This is a World War I badge for the Loyal Legion of Loggers and Lumbermen. The "Four L" formed in 1917 as a measure to preserve the wood supply crucial to the war effort from hindrances caused by labor strikes. The badge shows a forest scene with woodcutter's tools on the ground, and through a clearing one sees an airplane flying over a ship. The badge reads AUTHORIZED BY THE SECRETARY OF WAR at bottom.

VINTAGE: Circa World War I.

SIZE: Approximately 1-3/16" in diameter.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Plated brass.

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal pin with drop-in locking swivel catch.

MARKINGS: THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO. NEWARK N.J.
