ARTIFACT:
PLEASE NOTE: After many years of trying to gain access into one of the top 3 US Wing Collections in the country, we are pleased to announce that we finally are going to be listing pieces from this collection. A collection in the making of almost 30 years, there are many one-of-a-kind pieces in it that will be coming into the collecting market, as well as some of the "Best of Type" pieces. Many wonderful numismatic and biographical wings, uniforms, and groupings will be coming to market for the first time in years, some for the first time ever, over the coming months. This wing is one of those offerings???
Wonderful, uniquely personalized WWII United States Army Air Forces Air Crew wing. This example was made in the CBI Theater and features a ruby, bezel set above a nice, relief detailed Great Seal of the United States centered between feathered wings. Sadly, this was most likely engraved by a Chinese local and the name and squadron were adulterated in the process. The reverse shows an attempted engraving of the original owner's name and unit which reads: "FERDDY J. LEHR S/SGT. 336 ST." it is likely supposed to read: Freddy and have "TH" after the squadron number. The best part of the engraving is that the wearer obviously had one kill, as a Japanese Rising Sun flag is featured in the center.
