ARTIFACT:
This is a wonderful and unique early World War II shoulder patch for the United States Army Air Forces China Air Task Force (CATF). The CATF replaced the 1st American Volunteer Group (aka "Flying Tigers") and was the precursor to the 14th Air Force. The patch is embroidered in bullion upon deep indigo velvet and shows a winged golden tiger with light blue details. This patch came to us with an unidentified Chinese patch of the same era, rumored to be either the 1st Bomb Group or 1st Composite Squadron CACW (Chinese-American Composite Wing). Circa early World War II.
SIZE:
Approximately 2-11/16" in diameter.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Velvet embroidered in bullion and cotton/silk threads, wrapped around cardboard.
