ARTIFACT:
Wonderful 1880's – 1890's 'Old West' Deputy Sheriff circle star badge. The center of the badge features a lovely, stamped embellishment and the surrounding circle reads: "DEPUTY SHERIFF". Overall, the badge shows great patina and wear to nickel plated nickel surface and the reverse shows hand hammering to make the badge more convex.
These badges came out of an old collection put together by a collector from Kansas, now deceased. As the bulk of his collection was Kansas and Colorado, it can be safely assumed that these badges were indeed worn in the Old West of their particular vintage, although I do not know exactly where any were used or collected.
VINTAGE:
Circa 1880's – 1890's.
SIZE:
Approximately 2" in diameter.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Hammered, stamped nickel plated nickel, black paint.
ATTACHMENT:
Diagonal safety style pin with 'C' catch.

CONDITION:
6+ (Fine—Very Fine): The badge shows moderate to heavy surface wear, some of the plating remains intact, great patina and surface wear.
