ARTIFACT:
This is a fabulous and very rare World War II DOUBLE-engraved Wehrmacht dress bayonet for Artillery Regiment 13 of Magdeburg that was a D-Day Vet bring-back. The side engraved with "For Memory of My Service" (Zur Erinnerung an Meine Dienstzeit). That same side bears the maker mark of F. W. Holler Solingen, along with images of an Artillery Gun Crew, a Machine Gun Crew, and a Tank coming up over a hill! It is deeply etched with a lovely matte finish to the nickel plating. The unit side is again deeply engraved with a lovely matte finish to the recessed areas. At center the is an Artillery Gun Crew, at left reads Artl.-Regt. 13, on right Magdeburg. This side sports the local military supplier's hallmark: HANS GRUNEWALD Magdeburg Kantstr. 7. This is another artifact brought home by Radio Operator Clyde Williams, who was in the First Wave of the D-Day Invasion (please see link below for related products). Williams was attached to the 2nd Battalion, 47th Regiment, 9th Infantry at Cherbourg and to the 2nd Rangers Battalion at Pointe du Hoc. The bayonet was purchased directly from his younger brother who recently inherited it along with a few other items also listed on the site. This is a great untouched "out of the woodwork". A great addition to any collection.
