The "River Rats" were formally established in 1969, and the nickname stands for the Red River Valley Fighter Pilots Association. The group was set up to appreciate inter-service cooperation, especially between the airmen from the Navy, Marines and Air Force who ran missions over the Red River Valley region of North Vietnam. The patch is badge-shaped and shows a red river and a star and reads RIVER RATS.

VINTAGE: Circa Vietnam War.

SIZE: About 3-5/8" in height and 3-3/8" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Fully embroidered black patch with red, white and yellow cotton/silk/polyester threads.

ATTACHMENT: None.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a United States Air Force collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. TRAJX99 LHEX

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The patch shows slight wear and some minor fraying at edge.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
