ARTIFACT:
This is a very rare, circa 1944 - 1947 Thailand Chief Pilot bullion wing of the Royal Thai Armed Forces. An embroidered shield of red, white, and blue is centered between two lovely bullion and tinsel detailed wings with an intricate bullion embellishment rising up from the center. During WWII, Thailand encountered great pressure from the Japanese Imperial Army to allow the use of Thai territory for war activities. In the beginning, there was civilian cooperation, but as time went on it became clear through the actions of the Imperial Army, that they did not view Thailand as Allies. This encouraged the Thai people to revolt against the presence of the Imperial Army and the current ruling politics. Phibun's regime was eventually overthrown and replaced with a civilian government that worked closely with Allied forces, especially the Free Thai organization which provided intelligence and other crucial information that allowed Allies access to Bangkok and the ability to organize strategic attacks against the Imperial Japanese forces in the region.
