ARTIFACT:
This is a very rare (actually unique with the pilot's name on it) ca 1948 US Navy Fleet Logistics Air Wing VR-21 Flight Jacket Patch. The patch is made in Japan, of multi-piece felt, silk, and bullion.
VR-21 started out in WWII as the Naval Air Transport Service in 1943, and finally evolved into the patch we have here when NATS was combined with the USAAF ATC to create the MATS. At this point the US Navy need to create its own Transport Service again, to support strictly its own needs, and Fleet Logistics Air Wing was created in May of 1948.
We don't know much about the original owner of this patch, Lt. Loren L. Brown, but he did have a career in USN Logistics after his service in WWII. We have a couple more VR Squadron Patches of his that we will list now, a great painting of him, and a lot of photos. The Painting and Photos will list later this year.
VINTAGE:
Circa 1948.
SIZE:
Approximately: 4-1/16" in diameter
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Multi-piece felt, silk, and bullion.
ATTACHMENT:
To be sewn on.
MARKINGS:
N/A.
ITEM NOTES:
This is from a large collection of Aviation squadron, group, patches that we will be putting over the next few months. MFX22 LCIEX02/07/23
CONDITION:
8 (Excellent-): This patch was never worn, but does look like it was heavily glued onto a plaque at one point. And it does have 2 moth nips near the border. But still a very presentable example of a very rare (actually unique with Lt. Brown's name on it) patch.
GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
