ARTIFACT:
This is a Unique ca 1943 WWII USAAF 548th Bomb Sq., 385th B.G., 8th A. F. Jacket Patch, Originally Owned by Lt. Arlis Anderson KIA.
This poignant patch from early in the unit's existence was owned by the 1st. Lt. who's name is around the outside.
He died on the 9th day the squadron was operational:
1st Lieutenant Arlis K. Anderson

The above crew were all on board B-17 #425895, nicknamed The Souse Family, which was transferred from the 548th BS to the 551st. Apparently crews and personnel were also shared between squadrons as the 385th settled itself in, this only the 9th day of overseas operations. And the last for the above crew members.
Sgt. Parker F. Crabtree, Assistant Flight Engineer, was KIA by August 1943:

Crabtree's name is recorded on the Tablets of the Missing at Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery.
