ARTIFACT: This is a small grouping, circa 1913, of Badges & a period Photograph of San Antonio City Police Police Patrol Driver #1, Edwin L. Andersen. Andersen is pictured behind the wheel of San Antonio's first motorized Police Patrol vehicle (AKA Paddy Wagon) in the photograph, which has a much later plate attributing it to 1917, but as Andersen's own hand dates the badge to 1913, the photograph could be earlier.

The large, beautiful breast badge was at some time mounted on a plaque, perhaps by Andersen after his retirement, so the original safety type one-piece pin has been removed, and 2 small holes have been punched into the badge. The holes do not detract too much, and could be repaired by a competent jeweler. The hat badge also has a small hole punched into it at center

VINTAGE: Circa 1913.

SIZE: Approximately: Breast Badge:3" x 2-1/4": Hat badge:2-1/2" x 2": Photo Frame:8-1/8" x 7-1/8".

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Badge: Nickel-plated nickel with brass numeral. Photo:wood, photo, glass

ATTACHMENT: Breast Badge: no pin and catch, originally a one-piece safety-type pin and catch. Hat badge: single post with no backing. Photo frame: Loop to hang on wall.

MARKINGS:

Breast Badge: Hand Scratched on back: EA (for Ed Andersen) 1913
Hat Badge right: (SIM)MANG S.A.
Photo plate: Edwin L. Ankerson Patrol Driver No.1 1917

CONDITION: 6+ (Fine - Very Fine): Breast Badge has no pin, and 2 small holes have been punched into it, top and bottom. The Hat Badge is missing the screwback, and has a small hole punched in it at center. The framed photograph is in excellent condition. Overall Fine to Very Fine condition.
