ARTIFACT: This is a unique circa 1870s gold-filled locket with a blue enameled Maltese Cross. This was possibly meant for the child or grandchild of a Franco-Prussian War (War of 1870) Pour le M??rite (Blue Max) winner. The Pour-le-M??rite was Prussia's highest order of merit, initially given to civilians and military personnel alike, but later restricted only to serving officers. The beautiful oval locket has intricate engraved details on reverse, including a shield, and opens to reveal a purple cloth-lined interior section with a glass plate.

VINTAGE: Circa 1870s.

SIZE: Approximately 13/16" in height and 5/8" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Gold-filled, enamel, cloth lined, glass.

ATTACHMENT: Hinge, suspension ring.

MARKINGS: None

ITEM NOTES: This is from an Imperial Germany collection that we will be listing more of over the next few months. ebay06/18/22 MGFL14 LBDEX8/14 SLCDEX06/22
