This is a UCV Southern Cross of Honor Awarded to Private Mills T. Barfield Co C, 1st BN North Carolina Local Defense Troop.
Southern Cross of Honor (1861 - 1865)
Issued to Mills T. BARFIELD (Born June 1, 1845: Died March 1, 1930)
Enlisted in Greene County, North Carolina, on December 20, 1862. Served with Company C, 67th Regiment N.C. Troops until wounded on March 8, 1865 on the battlefield at Kingston, North Carolina.
This award was created by the United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1899 to give recognition to surviving United Confederate Veterans members. 

VINTAGE: Ca 1900.

SIZE: Approximately 2" in height x 1-5/16" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Die Struck Bronze with Nickel & Bronze findings.

ATTACHMENT: Single screw post with disc backing and pin.

MARKINGS: M.T.B on the bar

ITEM NOTES: This is from an old Confederate veteran collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. MCDAV21 LIGEX06/17/22 SLFIEX04/08/23

CONDITION: 8 (Excellent): The badge shows minor to moderate wear, and nice patina.
