ARTIFACT:
This is a Stunning Old West 1911 San Antonio Texas Assistant Marshall Badge in 14K Gold with Diamond
This badge started its life with the title: 2ND ASSISTANT MARSHALL SAM G. COOK around the outer ring of the greatly enhanced Circle Star Badge. It is dated at center September 1911, and that is when Cook was appointed 2ND Assistant Marshall. One year later, he was appointed Assistant Marshall, so he had the "2ND" engraved over with Laurel leaves!
This certainly does not detract from the badge, and even makes it a little more interesting.
The badge is large, at approximately 2-3/4" in height x 1-15/16" in width, and it has an even larger presence.
The eagle, and baton handles and tassels are profusely engraved, and there is a small, but real, diamond inside the wreath at bottom.
The badge is unmarked, but tested at 14K gold, and weights 24.2 Grams.
