ARTIFACT:
Made in solid 14K Gold with perfect hard fired black enamel, this badge is a stunning Major City high-rank badge that also happens to have ties to the Old West. I have not been able to find any solid info, but it is my suspicion that this badge was for the person who held a position similar to either a Chief or Commissioner of the Denver Police early in the 20th century. I'm leaning towards a Commissioner-type role as the smaller size would appear to be worn on a civilian lapel more than a full police uniform. But still, this is no "Lapel Badge", and has a larger presence than the diminutive size might suggest. The maker, The Denver Watch Case Company, was well established in Denver by the end of the 19th Century. The badge is in a starburst shape and the center reads: "POLICE" in the center, "SUPERVISOR" above and "DENVER" below and the reverse shows a nice maker's mark.
