ARTIFACT:
This is a grouping of three medals, two hat badges and two sets of bars from the United States Army's 8th Infantry Company B. The left-most medal is a veteran officer's service medal consisting of a wreathed eagle and crest at the top of a United States flag ribbon, and then each armed force's insignia above a cross-shaped medal reading: CUBA PORTO RICO U.S.A. PHILIPPINE ISLANDS SPANISH WAR VETERANS 1898-1902. The reverse of the medal reads UNITED along with labeled compass points. The next medal over is also a veteran officer's service medal but specifically for leadership, and has the same wording and design as the first medal, with the major difference being that there is an additional bar bearing an eagle on the ribbon. The third medal reads FOR SERVICE IN THE SPANISH WAR and is accompanied by two bars. There is one other set of bars, as well as a wreathed hat badge with a bar reading USWV (for United State War Veterans) and another hat badge showing crossed rifles with an 8B.
