ARTIFACT: Scarce WWII United States Marine Corps Women's Reserve Summer Dress Peppermint Green Visor Cap with RARE gilt sterling Enlisted hat badge. The visor is named to Rosalie C. McCann of Arizona and displays satin braided rope affixed with gilt brass buttons on the sides and with knotted tails in the center. The buttons show an eagle carrying an anchor surrounded by thirteen stars. The inside of the visor cap shows a maker's stamp on the satin that reads: "KNOX NEW YORK PATENT DESIGN NO. 135,439 MOVEO ET PROFICIO" and the sweatband features the original owner's name and cap "R.C. MCCANN 22".

The first class of USMC Women Reservists graduated in 1943 from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts (Officers) and Hunter College in the Bronx (Recruits). The next year, both Officers and Recruit training was relocated to New River, North Carolina. Graduates who achieved top marks in academics, performance, and civilian expertise were directly commissioned. The USMC Women enjoyed a myriad of assignments ranging from photographers, cooks, bakers, and laundry operators to parachute riggers, aerial gunnery instructors, cryptographers, and auto mechanics.

SIZE: Approximately Size 22 Measures: Ear to ear: 8-1/2"; Front to back: 7-1/2".

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Cotton twill, satin braided rope, gilt sterling, gilt brass, satin, ink.

ATTACHMENT: To be worn on head.

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The visor shows moderate wear, is slightly misshapen, and shows heavy soiling on inside sweatband, much of the gilt detail remains on the sterling hat badge, overall very fine condition.
