ARTIFACT: This is a scarce mid-World War II blood chit or "rescue patch". It was manufactured in China by the Chinese Aero Commission, whose large, stamped chop is near the bottom left of the chit as are stamped numbers: "13841". Near the bottom right is the "May Guo" characters stamped in purple the phonetic way to say American in Cantonese, which let the reader know that the person possessing the chit was American. It is silk-screened on silk with a fine linen backing. A large red and blue flag bearing the Chinese sun is at the top. It shows signs of being sewn to flight clothing, then carried after regulations changed, which is the reason for its folded condition. Great "Been There" look!
