ARTIFACT: This is a scarce large circa 1956 United States Navy ATU-400 (later ATU-401) jacket patch. This is a patch which would have been worn by US Navy aviators going through Advanced Pilot Training with Advanced Training Unit 400, which later in the 1950s became ATU-401. In 1960 the unit became VT-27 and got a new insignia. The patch has a great design showing a duck in a mortar cap instructing the younger ducklings on locating and bombing Russian subs, subject matter appropriate for the Cold War era.

VINTAGE: Circa 1956.

SIZE: About 5" in diameter.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Fully embroidered with cotton/poly/silk embroidery thread.

ATTACHMENT: To be sewn onto garment.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a United States Navy jacket patch collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. MEJL07 LBGEX9/13 SBBEX02/20

CONDITION: 8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The patch has some minor wear.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
