ARTIFACT:
This is a scarce large circa 1956 United States Navy ATU-400 (later ATU-401) jacket patch. This is a patch which would have been worn by US Navy aviators going through Advanced Pilot Training with Advanced Training Unit 400, which later in the 1950s became ATU-401. In 1960 the unit became VT-27 and got a new insignia. The patch has a great design showing a duck in a mortar cap instructing the younger ducklings on locating and bombing Russian subs, subject matter appropriate for the Cold War era.

About 5" in diameter.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Fully embroidered with cotton/poly/silk embroidery thread.

To be sewn onto garment.
