ARTIFACT: This is a scarce and early (circa 1930) United States Army "Panama Hellgate" shoulder patch: it is in an early design without "PANAMA" across the top. This is an "unauthorized" patch that was in use from 1922 until 1945. The patch is in bright red wool embroidered in yellow thread, and shows a portcullis at center representing the Isthmus of Panama. A small paper tag reading "Panama Hellgate" is taped on the back.

VINTAGE: Circa 1930.

SIZE: Approximately 3-1/8" in height and 2-3/4" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Wool felt embroidered in cotton/silk threads, partial mesh backing.

ATTACHMENT: None.

MARKINGS: Paper tag reading "Panama Hellgate" taped to reverse.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a 1930s United States Army shoulder patch collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VAJX14 LAFEX5/14

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The patch has a few small moth bites.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
