ARTIFACT: Salty WWII United States Marine Corps Women's Reserve Winter Undress Visor Cap named to Rosalie C. McCann. The visor is named to Rosalie C. McCann of Arizona and displays satin braided rope affixed with bronze buttons on the sides and with knotted tails in the center. The buttons show an eagle carrying an anchor surrounded by thirteen stars. The front of the cap features a bronze Enlisted hat badge. The inside of the visor cap shows a maker's stamp on the satin that reads: "KNOX NEW YORK PATENT DESIGN NO. 135,439 MOVEO ET PROFICIO" and the sweatband features the original owner's name and cap "ROSALIE C. MCCANN 22".

The first class of USMC Women Reservists graduated in 1943 from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts (Officers) and Hunter College in the Bronx (Recruits). The next year, both Officers and Recruit training was relocated to New River, North Carolina. Graduates who achieved top marks in academics, performance, and civilian expertise were directly commissioned. The USMC Women enjoyed a myriad of assignments ranging from photographers, cooks, bakers, and laundry operators to parachute riggers, aerial gunnery instructors, cryptographers, and auto mechanics.
