ARTIFACT: This is a rare WWII US Army Provost Marshal General Investigations Division badge # 39. The purpose of this division is to investigate felony crimes and serious violations of military law within the United States Army. This badge is the predecessor division to the modern CID (Criminal Investigation Division), which had existed before WWII, but had been going into a decline around the beginning of the war. The reason behind the decline of the CID was the growing size of the army and the increased crime rate, whereas the CID did not have enough trained personnel to conduct correct investigations. The Office of the Provost Marshal of the time was tasked with providing the necessary staff for supervision and reestablishment of the Criminal Investigation Division.

VINTAGE: World War II.

SIZE: Approximately: 2-3/8" in height x 1-5/8" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Chrome plated brass with hard fired black enamel.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical pin with locking drop-in catch.

MARKINGS: N/A.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a Police Badge collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. KEBEV24 LBCGEX06/01/24

CONDITION: 8+ (Excellent): The badge shows minor wear especially to the high point. Overall, it is in excellent condition.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
