ARTIFACT:
This is a rare hardcover copy of a World War II unit history of the United States Army Air Forces 491st Bomb Squadron that was printed in India in 1943. This book originally belonged to Lieutenant Ronald D. Shirlow, and a 5" x 7" photograph of him is included. Shirlow is on the USAAF Stateside Accident Report for November 11, 1944 as having been involved in a crash (Forced Landing, Mechanical Failure) at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. The book is in the "yearbook" style, and Shirlow's last name is misspelled under his "yearbook" photo.

Circa World War II (1943).
SIZE:
72 pages; approximately 10" in height and 7-1/2" in width and 1/2" in thickness; photograph: about 5" by 7".
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Embossed cloth-bound cover, paper.
ATTACHMENT:
Glued binding.
MARKINGS:
India Edition 1943; some pencil handwriting on last page; Ronald D. Shirlow and a handwritten message to return the photograph to his mother on the reverse of the photograph.

CONDITION:
7 (Very Fine): The book shows some light wear and an area of moderate wear to the back cover; tear on pages 1-4; back endpapers are lightly stained and wrinkled; last page has some pencil handwriting in lower corner; photograph only has been visited by silverfish.
