ARTIFACT:
This is a rare Korean War era jacket patch for the United States Air Force 6146th Advisory Group.
The 6146th was activated in 1950 as the 6146th Air Base Unit and redesignated twice: it became the 6146th Air Force Advisory Group in July 1953.
Charged with the training of the Republic of Korea's Air Force (ROKAF), the 6146th was on the forefront of battle as it also flew reconnaissance missions.
The patch is Korean-made and would normally bring at least $500, but there are areas of the mountains that have unfortunately been accessed by a hungry silverfish or moth.
VINTAGE:
Circa Korean War (early 1950s).
SIZE:
Approximately 3-3/4" in height and 4" in width.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Fully embroidered in silk/cotton threads, twill and wool insets.
ATTACHMENT:
To be sewn onto garment.
MARKINGS:
None.
ITEM NOTES:
We had 3 of these, and this is the last one, so the patch you will receive will be the one pictured. This is from a United States Air Force Jacket Patch collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. CON-JES-20-VCJJX12 LCGEX7/12 S(1)VCGEX10/20 REPVCJJX
CONDITION:
7- (Very Fine-): The patch shows light wear except for the areas of the mountains eaten by silverfish/moths. These must have been made with the tastiest type of wool... ;-)
GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
