ARTIFACT:
This is a Rare Early World War II Large Bronze Lapel Badge from the HITLER HATE CLUB of the Island of Jersey.
Close to 600 of these badges were found in an attic in a house on the island of Jersey in the 1990’s.
Presumably, they were local to Jersey residents and once the Island was occupied by the Germans they were hidden away.
The badges were mainly half-moon buttonhole backed, but there were a few pin back examples which were assumed to be for wear by women.
The "Hitler Hate Club" badge is a striking piece of historical memorabilia from World War II, reflecting the sentiments of defiance against tyranny. This badge features a unique design that combines powerful imagery with bold symbolism.
At the center, a stylized snake, representing treachery, rises from the ground, transitioning into Hitler's head. Opposite this figure, a fierce lion stands as a symbol of strength and courage, its main flowing, and its stance proud. The lion appears to be confronting the snake, embodying the struggle against oppression.
In the background, hints of a ship in the distance evoke the maritime culture of Jersey, grounding the badge in its historical context. The words "HITLER HATE CLUB" are prominently displayed at the base, signifying the collective resistance against the regime.
This badge not only serves as a piece of testament to the resilience and bravery of those who opposed fascism during a tumultuous era. It encapsulates the spirit of dissent and courage in the face of darkness.
