ARTIFACT: This is a rare circa 1944 badge for the South African Air Force No. 31 Squadron, a heavy bomber squadron based in the Mediterranean. This squadron flew B-24s over Crete, Ploesti and Warsaw. The badge shows an owl flying among searchlights with two dice above him displaying a three and a one.

VINTAGE: Circa 1944.

SIZE: Approximately 7/8" in diameter with one wing tip pointing out slightly past the edge.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Plated brass with black and white enamel.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical pin (catch is missing).

MARKINGS: N/A.

CONDITION: 7- (Very Fine-): The badge shows some light to medium wear and tarnish and the catch is missing.
