ARTIFACT:
NOTE: All of these USN patches being listed on consignment with consignor code CON-DSS come from the lifelong collection of a retired Vietnam War USN Pilot who had close times with the Tailhook Association and was able to obtain some very special and unique patches. We are proud to have been given the opportunity to bring parts of this collection to market. We will be listing 25 or so now, and hope to have another offering in April or May.
What we have here is a rare, ca early 1953 USN VF-103 Flying Cougars Flight Jacket Patch in near mint condition.
VF-103 original insignia of Flying Cougars when they were established on 1 May 1952. Insignia was approved in Late 1952 or early 1953 when the squadron got its new F9F-6 Cougars, The insignia was changed in 1958 when the squadron transitioned to the F8U Crusader - new nickname became the Sluggers.

Early 1953.
SIZE:
Approximately: 5-3/8" in diameter.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Fully-embroidered patch in multi-colored silk/cotton threads.
ATTACHMENT:
To be sewn onto Flight Clothing.

9+ (Near Mint-) Almost as new, and some pen marks keep this gorgeous patch form being Mint.
