ARTIFACT:
This Beautiful Launching Medal is from the launch of the USS California (BB-44), a Tennessee-class battleship constructed by Mare Island Naval Shipyard, based in Vallejo, California. The USS California served as the flagship of the Pacific Fleet for twenty years. Is was sunk in the attack on Pearl Harbor, but was quickly salvaged, repaired, and relaunched to join WWII. The USS California was a very influential ship during its life, playing a key role in the Battle of Surigao Strait. This medal is in excellent condition. This medal was manufactured in such a way, as to be able to be used as a watch fob by the owner.

Circa 1919.

Approximately 1-15/16" in height x 1- 1/4" in width.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Bronze.
ATTACHMENT:
To be attached to a watch via a leather belt.

CONDITION:
8+ (Excellent): Very minimal oxidization. So many of the small details on this medal remain, making for a stunning piece from the rope and bear on the front to the crossed flags and poppy flowers on the back.
