ARTIFACT:
Rare 1972 Commemorative Douglas MacArthur Medal in case designed by Paul Calle for the International Numismatic Agency and produced in very limited quantities in sliver, this example is #615. The medal weighs six ounces and is in mint condition with the front depicting MacArthur walking through water on his return to the Philippines and it reads: "DOUGLAS MacARTHUR I SHALL RETURN" along the top. The reverse shows a close up of his neck and head, with an eagle in the background clasping the US Shield and Arrows in its talons. MacArthur's cap features a beautifully detailed cap badge and to the side of his ear it reads: "PAUL CALLE J. DILORENZO 1972 ??" and along the bottom it reads: DUTY ?? HONOR ?? COUNTRY. The display case is navy blue and red and the top reads: "GENERAL DOUGLAS MacARTHUR DUTY ?? HONOR ?? COUNTRY DESIGNED BY PAUL CALLE" the underside of the lid reads the same on white satin. Douglas MacArthur was a five star general and field marshal in the Philippine Army and Chief of Staff for the US Army in the 1930's and was stationed in the Pacific Theater during WWII and during his remaining military career was awarded over 100 medals from the United States and numerous other countries.
