ARTIFACT: This is a rare 1959 pocket patch for the United States Navy USS Barracuda (SST-3) submarine training ship. Launched on March 2, 1951 at Groton, Connecticut, the ship only existed with the SST-3 designation for one month, in between being the Barracuda SSK-1 and the Barracuda SS-550. She was decommissioned in August 1959. The patch shows a barracuda with a conning tower on his back wearing a sailor's cap and headphones.

VINTAGE: Circa 1959.

SIZE: Approximately 4-3/8" in height and 3-15/16" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Twill embroidered in cotton/silk/polyester threads, mesh backing.

ATTACHMENT: None.

MARKINGS: None.
