ARTIFACT: This is a rare Chinese-made United States Navy officer hat with a gold bullion insignia. The hat badge shows a nicely detailed bullion eagle facing right. The right-facing eagle was used during WWI and then again in the 1920's. A maker's logo showing an eagle and globe is in an inner plastic sleeve. The entire hat, buttons, and bullion insignia were made in China. This was from the period of US Navy gunboat patrols on the Yangtze River, the period made famous in the movie "The Sand Pebbles" starring Steve McQueen.

VINTAGE: Circa 1920's.
