ARTIFACT: This is a circa 1920 officer kepi for the 1st Escadrille (Squadron) of the French Service AŽronautique. This group was formed in 1909 and later became a branch in its own right in 1933, when it was renamed L'ArmŽe de l'Air, or Army of the Air (Air Force). The kepi has a gilt brass eagle and a number one above it.

VINTAGE: Circa 1920.

SIZE: Approximate size 7 (7-5/8" from inside rim of visor to back edge of hat).

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Wool felt, leather, bullion embroidery, embroidery tape, cotton/silk embroidery, gilt brass, leather liner, silk interior.

ATTACHMENT: None.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a French militaria collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. CON-JMB-50-VEJJX12 LABJJX4/12 SHJJX3/12

CONDITION: 7- (Very Fine-): The kepi has moderate wear and crazing to the visor and liner, as well as the band on the front of the hat. The wool and silk portions of the hat are in very good condition, except for a slight scuff/dented spot on the left side; brass insignia show very minor tarnish.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
