ARTIFACT: This is a rare circa 1920 Haitian Constabulary (Gendarmerie) officer's belt buckle as worn by United States Marine Corps officers commanding the group. The United States occupied Haiti starting in 1915 to safeguard American business interests on the island and remained there long after the Paris Peace Treaty of 1919. The buckle reads Republique D' Haiti at the top over a pair of cannons.

VINTAGE: Circa 1920.

SIZE: Approximately 2-5/16" in height and 2-1/16" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Brass.

ATTACHMENT: Buckle, brads holding on embellishment.

MARKINGS: Hard-to-read maker mark on clip.

CONDITION: 7- (Very Fine-): The buckle has some light to medium wear and tarnish; area of oxidation to one corner.
