ARTIFACT: This is a beautiful circa 1852-57 brass padlock from the US Custom House in Portsmouth, NH. This lock was manufactured by Davenport & Mallory Co., of New Haven CT, which existed by that name from 1852-57

VINTAGE: Circa 1852-57.

SIZE: About 3-5/8" x 2-5/8"

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Brass.

ATTACHMENT: None.

MARKINGS: The padlock is inscribed on one side: "U.S. Custom House" and on the other, a small cover for the keyhole shows an American eagle above the initials "D&M". Not to be confused with the later mark of the company, D. M. & Co., for Davenport, Mallory, & Co., the name the company went by from 1861-1864.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a large collection of Police related items which we will be listing more of over the next months. ebay-C06/10/19 VCJJX06 LBCJJX SLAGEJX12/13 SLADGEX4/16

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
