ARTIFACT:

This is a nice Valor Medal Grouping of US Army 79th Inf. Div. PFC James A. Ford of Montana, including his Named Silver Star, Unnamed Purple Heart, Dog Tags, POW Dog Tag, 79th Div. Patch, G/O period Copy of Silver Star Citation, and other miscellaneous Paper and newspaper clippings. 

PFC Ford started his service as an Engineer, but quickly became familiar with ALL infantry weapons, and began Volunteering for Combat Patrols, until he was eventually captured by the Germans in January 1945 at the Battle of the Bulge and sent to Stalag XIII-C in Hammelburg, Lower Franconia, Bavaria, Germany, to spend the rest of the war there. 

VINTAGE: World War II.

SIZE: Approximately Purple Heart: 3-1/8" in height x 1-3/8" in width. Case: 6-1/2" x 3-1/2" Silver Star: 2-3/4" in height and 1-7/16" in width. Case: 6-1/2" x 3-1/2" POW Dog Tag: 2-3/8" in width x 1-9/16" in height. US Dog Tag: 2" in width x 1-1/8" in height. 79th Div. Patch: 2-3/8" in height x 2" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Medals: Gilt and plated brass, enamel, silk. Patch: Fully embroidered in cotton/silk threads.

ATTACHMENT: Medals: Horizontal Pin with locking come-under catch.
