ARTIFACT:
Nice 1950's US Marine Corps Shooting Medals Grouping of Captain Burl B. Bevers. Captain Burl Bevers was born in Texas and graduated from South Carolina University and went on to receive a master's degree at Tufts University. He served in WWII and again in the Korean War with the Second Marine Division. Captain Bevers set records and received numerous medals before retiring from the Marine Corps Schools Rifle Range. During his years of service, he competed with the very best. In 1952, Capt. Bevers was on TSgt. W. W. McMillan's team, a 1st Lieutenant at the time - McMillan is known as one of the greatest USMC shooters to date. That year the National Rifle and Pistol Championship was held from August 15 to September 2nd with the smallbore rifle and pistol matches in Jacksonville, Florida and the high-power rile matches at Fort Benning, Georgia. Captain Bevers was appointed the assistant director of marksmanship for the USMC in 1956, during his time he served as team captain and coach to a number of USMC Shooting Teams. This lot of medals includes 5 National Match medals, 2 USMCR medals, 4 Camp Pendleton Medals, and a National Match medal for the West Coast Rifle ClubÉalong with the 2 "good" medals and finally, his American Legion Medal. He was awarded the Distinguished Marksman and/or Distinguished Pistol Shot in 1953, in 1952 the MCRD, held at Parris Island in South Carolina, the 1955 Third Marine Division, and his team was the 1954 Winner.

CONDITION:
8+ (Excellent): The ribbon has become separated from the bar on the 1955 Winner's medal with ÔCaptain' and ÔCoach' bars, overall the medals shows minor to moderate use/storage wear. A number of them are in the original cases of issue, the lot is in overall excellent condition.
