ARTIFACT: This is a circa 1850s fixed globe lantern from Eastern Railroad, which ran between Boston, Massachusetts and Portland, Maine starting in 1836. The "F.T." etched on the glass globe may stand for Fitchburg Terminal, which was incorporated into the E.R.R. route after they leased the fortune-changing Grand Junction Railroad in 1852. The Grand Junction line connected the traditional north-south route to many more stations. This lantern was purchased at a Newington, New Hampshire estate auction around 2000.

VINTAGE: Circa 1850s-1860s.

SIZE: Approximately 16-1/2" in height and 5-3/4" in diameter at the base.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Painted tin, steel wire, brass burner, glass globe.

ATTACHMENT: Looped cuff for hanging.

MARKINGS: E.R.R. F.T..

ITEM NOTES: This is from a railway collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VBGEX00 LABJJX7/11 SGEJX8/14

CONDITION: 6+ (Fine-Very Fine): The lantern has heavy rusting; globe is intact with no cracks.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
