ARTIFACT: This is a large United States Navy submarine patch for the nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine USS Nathan Hale SSBN-623. She was launched from Groton, Connecticut on January 12, 1963 and commissioned the day following JFK's assassination. The Nathan Hale served as part of the United States Atlantic Fleet and was decommissioned in April 1986. The patch is embroidered with the motto VIS UNITA FORTIOR: In unity strength is stronger.

VINTAGE: Circa 1960's.

SIZE: Approximately 5" in diameter (patch is not 100% round though nearly so).

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Fully embroidered in cotton/polyester threads.

ATTACHMENT: None.

MARKINGS: None.

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The patch shows only some light wear and some minor spots of discoloration.
