ARTIFACT:
This is a Large Second Empire France Guard Dragoons Helmet Plate from the 1850's.
The design of the Second Empire guard dragoons helmet plate from the 1850s features a prominent central eagle, a symbol of power and military might, perched atop a globe. The eagle is depicted with outstretched wings, showcasing detailed feather work that emphasizes its grandeur.
Beneath the eagle, there is a representation of a globe, which is often interpreted as a symbol of imperial authority. The eagle is flanked by crossed lightning bolts, signifying swift and decisive action, with additional embellishments which were commonly associated with courage and strength.
VINTAGE:
Circa 1853 - 1870.
SIZE:
Approximately: 11-1/4" in width (at widest point of plate, at bottom) x 6-1/4" in height.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Stamped brass and copper wire.
ATTACHMENT:
Loop at top; there are some solder marks on the back where wires most likely were placed.

CONDITION:
7 (Very Fine): The Plate shows minor to moderate wear. Overall, it is in wonderful condition considering that it is from the 1850s.
