ARTIFACT:
Fabulous Korean War, circa 1951 United States Air Force 5th Mule Train (Motor Transport Squadron) Reversible tour jacket with large Japanese-made patch. The satin and wool jacket is navy blue with golden yellow embellishments, the reverse reads: "5TH MULE TRAIN" and just below features a large, fully embroidered squadron patch that depicts the insignia, a bucking mule and above it reads: "5th AF" with a small white star on either side. Surrounding the center image reads: "5TH MOTOR TRANSPORT SQUADRON" along the top, the bottom reads: "5TH MULE TRAIN-KOREA" all details are beautifully embroidered. There is a tag stitched inside one of the hand pockets that reads: "VULCAN TOKYO JAPAN L MADE IN JAPAN". The 5th Motor Transport Squadron was stationed at Kunsan Air Base where the squadron transported/hauled munitions, weapons, fuel, and a myriad of supplies from the Kunsan Harbor to the Air Base. The 5th Mule Train was attached to the 5th Air Force. The 5th MT largely supported the 3rd Motor Transport Squadron and 3rd Bombardment Wing in North Korea when the Allied troops pushed across the 38th parallel.

CONDITION:
8- (Very Fine—Excellent): The jacket shows light to moderate wear, light soiling around pockets, the satin side shows separation near the base of the zipper (see photo)
