ARTIFACT: Great WWII No. 38 Squadron Royal Air Force brass and oak plaque, The center features a lovely hand-painted squadron crest showing a heron in the center and above reads: "BOMBER SQUADRON" with the number "38" on each side of the center and below: "ROYAL AIR FORCE". The center circle is topped with a royal crown and beneath a scroll which reads: "ANTE LUCEM". The No. 38 Bomber Squadron flew (and received) the first Vickers Wellington bombers in 1938 and one of the few squadrons to use the aircraft until the end of WWII. The No. 38 BS saw much action both at home engaged in night raids on Germany, and while stationed in the Mediterranean Theater performing recon, mine laying, and anti-submarine missions.

VINTAGE: Circa WWII.

SIZE: Approximately 7" in width x 9-1/2" in height.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Hand-painted brass, oak.

ATTACHMENT: Brass loop for wall hanging. Six brass studs that affix the painted brass crest to the wood.

MARKINGS: None. (remnants of paper label on reverse)

CONDITION: 7 (Very Fine): The plaque shows minor moderate use/storage wear, mostly at high points, much of the hand-painted details remain intact, overall very fine condition.
