ARTIFACT:
This is a great World War II combat medic lapel pin. The pin shows a winged red enameled cross upon a stretcher beneath which two snakes are entwined. This particular medical device (which is a miniature of the full-size device) was used by the Army only, and it was the first device authorized (and short-lived) with the enameled red cross. The arc at the top is strictly added as part of the 'sweetheart jewelry' aspect of the pin, and does not appear on any of the official, full-size insignia.
VINTAGE:
Circa World War II.
SIZE:
Approximately 5/8" in height and 3/4" in width.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Plated brass with enamel.
ATTACHMENT:
Horizontal pin with come-under locking swivel catch.
MARKINGS:
None.
ITEM NOTES:
This is from a medical collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VBJX06 LAAEX8/11 SAAEX6/13
